Lady L-Plater’s Golfing Journal week 14

Published by in Lady & the Lumpy One “Dukes of Hazzard” on the 13th ·

I was part of a 3-ball on this very fine day.  The Lovely Lady-M and the Lovely Lady V.C.  Our current Lady V.C. is glamorous, refined, sophisticated and a fine golfer.  I am lumpy, misaligned and wearing a ridiculous floppy hat to protect my ears from the sun.  And ye already know about the quality of my golf…

Off we went, the 3 of us and my banana-drive affliction.  It is nice to have become comfortable enough in my own golf to be able to appreciate the exemplary golfing of my 2 companions on the day.  Lady V.C. had a beautiful birdie on the 2nd.  I scratched the 3rd.  Lady V.C. had a divine off-the-green-straight-into-the-hole putt on the 6th.  I overhit my 7-iron across the 6th green – Hulkesque.

I did manage to scrape a point on the 7th despite having sputtered my way all along the fairway.  And I had my bestest ever on the 10th – a 1-pointer of an 8.  Yeehar…

And then there was the 13th.  13 used to be my lucky number.  Not so much anymore.  I had a good but somewhat banana-style drive.  I subsequently duffed not 1, not 2 but 3 iron shots to end up with a path (of sorts) throught the trees onto the green.  Lady V.C. chipped demurely to one side – playing the wise percentage shot.  I lamped the ball into the trees for an unbelievable double ricochet which landed smoothly beside the Lady V.C.’s ball.  I had also performed a demure percentage shot, but mine was U-shaped and the ball was covered in splinters.  I followed this with a Dukes of Hazzard 8-iron shot along the edge of the pond and upside of the bunker to hug the side of the green at its end.  Alas, one putt was not enough, but what a rollercoaster journey it was.

Due to a complex stroke / handicap combo thing, I won the 15th.  Which was nice.  But I had to drive 1st on the 16th and the wheels came off, the walls came crashing down and I scratched the 16th.  Pure game of highs and lows this.

By the end of the day, I had 4 scratches – 2 + 2.  But my points had edged just over the mid 20’s.  It’s been a couple of years since I was heading for 30 – ‘twill be nice to do so again….
