The golfing day started with a wee element of confusion vis-à-vis strokes or stableford. I duly overcompensated and made sure the cards were filled in for both along with shoe size, blood type D.O.B. (both real and imagined). Much intense paperwork.
The weather was fab – positively spring-like – but the shot limit of Stepford, I mean Stableford, makes a difference. Testing limits is a way of life for me (sorry parents) and I had an 8 on the Ladies Par 5 2nd hole. This came about due to the fact that, as I drove, the ol’ head came up hard enough to cause mild whiplash. My Freak ball (a prize, don’t you know..) stayed up on the tee box as it didn’t want to miss whatever had caught my attention so fully. Ironic, in a way.
And, on the 3rd (Par 3’s – should be easy, often ain’t) there I was – a mere 18” putt for a 3 (nett Hole-in-One pour moi). I left with a 7 and a recently diagnosed possessed putter. Hurmph.
But redemption lay ahead. I had a lovely-jubbly 5 on the 4th – just kissing the temporary green with my 2nd shot. Me – shot #2 – kissing green – mmmmmm. It was, of course, the Aura of the Guru that steered the shots as he roamed his Kingdom and regarded his subjects while making driving noises so we don’t notice. I owe the Guru a cappuccino or two so I do.
